There wasn't enough detail about the character building and leveling for me to make a call. I am not a big fan of run-and-gun ground combat, but that is all they showed. Space combat might be fun, but I hope it won't be more than an occasional thing. The graphics looked reasonable, although the NPCs are deep in uncanny valley for me. I'd be happier if they stuck to a smaller number of fully developed worlds. Even if you are generous and say they can do 20, that means the other 980 planets are going to be procedurally-generated rocks that you would only visit to mine ores. With comparable numbers of developers as Skyrim and 4 years of serious development, you might be able to handcraft 8 - 12 planets. The more area you spread content over, the more time you have to spend traveling through boring places to get to something interesting. I can't see you getting away with less content than that or a smaller map than that and still be a plausible open world planet. Let's say that one planet has about 1/10 as much stuff in it as Skyrim, but spread out over a map a quarter the size of Skyrim. I don't see how that is possible with the handcrafted locations I expect from Bethesda open world games. My biggest concern is that they promise 1000 worlds and that you can land anywhere you want on any one of them. On the other hand, if the reviews look good I may end up buying it. I'll admit up front that my primary interest in Starfield is that releasing it means that Bethesda can now start doing serious work on The Elder Scrolls VI. And that has an uncanny valley upper bound.

I have a suspicion that they set up animation systems rather than complete mocap. The faces look much better here, but not much better than Mass Effect Andromeda. Conversation with people doing other things in Skyrim felt way more natural that Oblivion. Have to say I'm mildly disappointed they went with zoomed in faces. In any case I'd love to try out an NMS/Fallout/Privateer hybrid. I'll play the first sight unseen, the second after they've proved they have a decent game (ESO kinda won me over after their Morrowind expansion). See I take the tack that you mostly want to follow the main studio and think of 76 as the Zenimax team. I've fallen for Todd's baby blue eyes too many times now XD. Maybe I'm concerned about getting 76'd again. I'm currently in my bagillionth hour in Skyrim and will of course give Starfield a shot.

Honestly I feel the opposite, Starfield looked like something I could deeply sink myself into in creating my own character and stories, Redfall looked like a painfully teen looter shooter without much in the way of a story. Oh well.Д®dit to add High on Life looks weird as hell and I'm loving it so far.

Anyone underwhelmed by the presentation? I was hoping for some Avowed gameplay and at least a teeny tiny bit of something for TES 6. More excited for Redfall than Starfield at this point.

*facepalm*)ДЄnd since Starfield is to be a single-player Bethesda game, there should be mods galore over time to let the players' creative impulses mold it even more. (Just please, please, please make it so that we can't accidentally kill a minor NPC at one point, only to find out later that they hold the key to competing something critical to the main story. The bigger story can make a physically small game world seem larger just by making the player's actions part of complex, more interesting stakes. There tends to be as much happening and developing off-screen as there is on, and that helps to make the game world more 'alive' without having to resort to increasingly bigger, flashier, and sometimes more fatiguing big battles and scenes at every turn. Usually by setting up and working within some well-constructed lore. Something Bethesda has done so well over time is taking a genre and every so often doing something that either turns it on its ear, breaks a wall or two, or somehow (despite bugs, I know, I know.) just gets things inexplicably right in some way that defies normal expectations.

Honestly, I don't mind if Starfield borrows elements of what we've seen in outer-space quests and shooters before. I look at Starfield and all I can say is RIP Star Citizen.ДЇrontier has been slogging away at allowing the player to walk around outside their ship in Elite:Dangerous as well, with limited and somewhat mixed results so far.
